Debate Guidelines
Schools that have attended our past programs should encourage their students to participate through our Ambassador Leadership Club if you have formed one in your school.
Schools that have never participated in any of our programs can also participate. Please visit our website at www.acln.org to register and get a chapter/school ID for participation in the debate and any of our leadership programs.
This is a teamwork virtual debate in which two students come together to present their perspective about the given topic. The participating students from each school are expected to work together in producing a 7min video on the contest topic.
It is important to note that participants from each school are a team. You are not contesting against each other but rather contesting against other schools in the competition. Hence we advise both participants to work together in creating a good and complementing debate video on the topic. Points raised in debate should be complementary to each others.
The team may decide to share the 7min allotted time 3.5min each in presenting their perspective or in whatever ratio they prefer.
The contestant that will speak first must introduce him or herself, the school and the official topic at the beginning of the speech. The following speaker does not need to repeat the topic. A penalty is automatically assessed for failure to state the official topic.
To avoid repetition, we advised that each contestant should present different but complementary viewpoints. A contestant may however want to reinforce a particular point of the other where necessary
Video should be shot against a plain or white background and in a bright and clean room/office.
We accept video shot using cellphone as long as the quality is excellent. Remember that this will be watched online and voted so we encourage a good quality video.
Our website will be open for submitting your entries starting February 20th to submit your video entry. Remember, your video MUST not be more than 7min long.
If you have any questions during your preparation, please ask through the ACLN Ambassador Leadership Club Facebook Educational Group which you should have been automatically added to when you register. If, however you are not part of the group please search the name ACLN Ambassador Leadership Club on Facebook and click to request to be added.
A senior level leadership debate is also separately available for tertiary institution students. ACLN Debate competition for the tertiary institutions will commence immediately after the secondary school debate. If you are a tertiary institution student, please register on our website and watch out for your start date.
